Courage & Perseverence

Sometimes we simply have to endure or withstand with courage. Courage is the ability to persevere through difficult times while we are waiting on God for answers and direction. It takes courage to continue to act despite our fears. Courage is at the root of every step forward we take.

Courage from God's Promises
“I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” (Joshua 1:5) We can find courage and strength in this promise that the Lord will always be there for us and will never leave us alone.
Ann M. Dibb

Courage to Persevere
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
Psalms 27:14

The refiner’s fire is not a comfortable place to be. It involves intense heat and repeated hammering. But it is in the refiner’s fire that we are purified and prepared to meet God. Kim experienced the refiner’s fire in a way she never expected. She had always wanted a large family. Her first son wasn’t even two when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor that claimed his life. Her daughter was diagnosed with bone cancer. She lost her husband and another son to cancer. In her refiner’s fire, she “began to think maybe I couldn’t do this. Maybe I wasn’t strong enough. Maybe I might fail. But the Lord wasn’t going to allow me to fail. I know that’s not unique to me. He does that for everybody.” She learned that the Savior does provide what you need to face tragedies with faith and confidence.

I chose to be courageous.

Sometimes grief can feel like quicksand. Stuck. Like there is no way out and at times it paralyzed me with fear. I couldn’t move. Courage felt like something that wasn’t part of my vocabulary anymore, something I couldn’t muster. But as the months rolled on I learned I could function if I chose to do so. I chose to be courageous. I chose to learn new things and push myself forward instead of staying in the same place. Your mind can be a powerful force for good. Many times it’s just about making a decision.
