Serving

As we loose ourselves in helping others, we put ourselves in a position to receive the maximum amount of personal help from God. The greatest service you can do is to reach out to help another person who is suffering. Our experiences have given us empathy and understanding to be a voice of good in this world. True joy comes from making a difference in the lives of others.

Substance of our Souls
The more we serve our fellowmen in appropriate ways, the more substance there is to our souls

The Answer to our Prayer
Often, the answer to our prayer does not come while we are on our knees but while we are on our feet serving the Lord and serving those around us

Sometimes, the most important things we do each day are never even on our “to-do” list. As we help a neighbor or family member, we often overlook the results. Service has made all the difference!!!

I have a new view of how powerful even small acts of service can be. Every card, text, meal, treat, or even hug that I received has helped me keep going. Just knowing that others care and that I am not forgotten or alone helps give me strength. Now, when I question, “if I _______, will it really make a difference? It’s such a small thing.” I know the answer is YES!!! We all want to know that we are loved and supported. Even when we can’t fix things for others, just showing love can be the greatest service of all. I don’t feel like I have much to give right now, but even when I can make a small difference for someone, it helps me to feel like I still have purpose. Service is one of the few things that still helps me feel true joy.

Question & Answer

How can I serve when I am overwhelmed with my life?

“What if your neighbor asked you to take 20 minutes one night to help him? Would you do it? Most decent people would. But what if he asked you every night following, with no end in sight? Would you be willing to do it? … When would serving your neighbor feel more like servitude?” That is the question a group of men had to ask themselves when they united to serve their neighbor Kathy, who suffers from the debilitating effects of multiple sclerosis. For the past seven years they have lifted Kathy into bed at night. In doing so they have lifted her spirit, as well as their own. The miracle about service is that we are lifted as we lift others.
